Alex tops off a busy Day One at HK Squash !!

The 2023 TTI Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open got under way today with 32 Round One matches across four courts at Hong Kong Squash Centre.

There wasn’t much joy for the home favourites, until the last match of the day the only HK winner was Chan Sin Yuk, who ousted compatriot Tomato Ho in a minor seeding upset.

Never one to miss an opportunity to shine though, HK’s Alex Lau featured in the last match on Center Court and came from 8-5 down in the fifth to record a fantastic win over Qatar’s Abdulla Altamimi !

Elsewhere there were ten Egyptian winners, six from England, four from Malaysia and three from France. Longest match of the day was Shahjahan Khan‘s 76 minute win over Karim El Hammamy, shortest was HKFC Champion Siva Subramaniam‘s 17 minute victory over Millie Tomlinson.

Today’s winners for the most part are up against seeded players in tomorrow’s Round Two, although there are four women’s and one men’s match contested by two of today’s winners.
