Day TWO : Seeds join in for Round Two

The 2023 TTI Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open continued today with 32 Round Two matches across four courts at Hong Kong Squash Centre. Yesterday’s winners for the most part were up against seeded players today, although there are four women’s and one men’s match contested by two of today’s winners.

Naughton gatecrashes last sixteen as Chan Sin Yuk advances

Canada’s Hollie Naughton produced the biggest upset of the day as she overcame fifth seed Olivia Weaver in a five game thriller. Home fans were delighted as Chan Sin Yuk beat 9/16 seed Jasmine Hutton to set up a meeting with top seed Nour El Sherbini, but a packed crowd on court 7 were disappointed as Alex Lau went down in straight games to France’s Victor Crouin.

Several other 9/16 seeds fell – Fares Dessouky, beaten in straight games by Germany’s Raphael Kandra, Colombian Miguel Rodgiguez who was beaten in four games by England’s Patrick Rooney, France’s Melissa Alves who lost out in five games to fellow 9/16 seed Satomi Watanabe, Swiss Nicolas Mueller lost out to a resurgent Omar Mosaad, and Sabrina Sobhy, Nada Abbas and Mohamed ElSherbini who all lost out to top eight seeded opponents in Hania El Hammamy, Rowan Elaraby and Marwan ElShorbagy.

A dramatic finish to the day saw the final two matches, both five-setters, finish at exactly the same time as France’s Auguste Dussourd avenged his HKFC defeat by Aly Abou Eleinen, and Leandro Romiglio beat Adrian Waller in the only men’s match between two unseeded players,

After two busy opening days, all the matches now take place on the Glass Court as the centre for three days before moving to the Cultural Centre for the semis and finals.
