Sherbini cruises to second HK title

ElSherbini claimed her first title of the PSA season, and the 45th of her career in dominant style, denying U.S. #1 Weaver, who was appearing in a Platinum final for the first time.
Eight years on from her only previous Hong Kong Open title, ElSherbini, who had beaten Weaver in all of their 16 previous meetings, dominated the first two games to move close to a second HK triumph. Despite falling 6-1 down in the third she recovered to take the title in just 32 minutes.
“It was huge for me last night to beat Hania,” ElSherbini said. “I was definitely very sore today, but I had my routine and a good warmup today. It means a lot to me today. That number 45th title is huge and I never thought I was going to reach it.
“It’s a really good end to the year for me. I’m really happy about finally finding myself back. I hope to carry through this momentum and the next half of the season can be better.”
Mostfa retains to claim a third HK title
[1] Mostafa Asal (Egy) 3-0 [8] Youssef Ibrahim (Egy) 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 (56m)
Asal became just the fifth man to defend his Hong Kong Open title, has looked a class above all week, not dropping a single game, and the final proved no different with the top seed winning his third title of the season in another straight games win.
Much like ElSherbini, Asal was in control in the first game, then came from 6-3 down to take a the second and moving away from 7-6 in the third to lift the title.
“I’m really happy to play here and I’m really happy to perform,” said Asal. “I don’t come here to compete – I come here to dominate. Today was an unbelievable performance, I’m super happy that Youssef is back, he’s going for titles and the belief in the finals will take him to another level.”
